Here are some of the many opportunities:

Collections & Archives

The KHS has a varied collection of textiles, books, furniture, and other objects. Collections and files are located at the Tallman House, 10 Studio Hill Road, which is open on Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons.

Museum Docents

Are you a lifelong learner with a passion for sharing history with your community? KHS will begin Docent training in the winter for volunteers interested in presenting guided tours and education programs to students and adults in the spring and summer. The docent program is both intellectually stimulating and socially rewarding and includes courses, readings, and discussions on topics in the Kent art community, American / Colonial history and local lore. Whether you’ve lived here for many years or you are new to the area, discover the rewards of sharing the rich history of our town to students, families and adults.

  • Seven Hearths is open on the weekends from June - September.
  • Hours: Shifts are 11-1:30 and 1:30-4 p.m.

Office

The office occasionally needs help with mailings and data entry. Special projects include taking handwritten information and typing it into a spreadsheet.

Hospitality

Volunteers help with programs and events by offering a welcoming environment to visitors from all backgrounds. Volunteers assist with set-up, maintenance, and clean-up of food and beverages, collect tickets and donations. Programs take place at Seven Hearths, at local festivals / events and in town buildings. Enjoy participating in the many programs that KHS has to offer while meeting friends and guests. Volunteers also help to promote the Museum Shop and Membership.

Seven Hearths/Gardens

KHS places special importance to George Laurence Nelson's gardens at Seven Hearths. They need regular maintenance throughout the spring, summer and fall. Gardeners are needed in the spring to start seeds and to plant the appropriate flowers - these are identified by Nelson’s paintings and lists.

Fundraising Committee

We are always looking for fresh ideas for fundraisers as well as worker bees to carry out the ideas. We welcome anyone with imagination, enthusiasm and good organizational skills to help with fundraising.
